Black Republicans in 2010

I have the utmost respect for the brave black men and women who stand for their values as Republicans. Think about it. Not the easiest of stances. To identify themselves as Republicans, gasp, Conservatives, yikes, or, blasphemy, Tea Partiers, must be to risk a serious backlash. There will be no New York Times report on their circumstances, at least not one that notes the truth. (And if there is one please let me know.)

Consider the following (source link here);

They’ve been called Oreos, traitors and Uncle Toms, and are used to having to defend their values. Now black conservatives are really taking heat for their involvement in the mostly white tea party movement—and for having the audacity to oppose the policies of the nation’s first black president.

“I’ve been told I hate myself. I’ve been called an Uncle Tom. I’ve been told I’m a spook at the door,” said Timothy F. Johnson, chairman of the Frederick Douglass Foundation, a group of black conservatives who support free market principles and limited government.

“Black Republicans find themselves always having to prove who they are. Because the assumption is the Republican Party is for whites and the Democratic Party is for blacks,” he said

I think it is sad that to be black means, to some, you have to be Democrat! There is a lot of controversy surrounding the Tea Party movement. I understand that. It has been vilified. Won’t go into that. Are there always some radicals on the Right and Left, yes, and they do not represent the whole. (I am still waiting for the video or audio of the actual racial slurs and other epitaphs that was claimed. With all the cell phones with cameras!) The Tea Party movement is made up of a lot of average folks, and some if not many are Democrats and Independents. I attended a Tea Party gathering of over a thousand recently and found it to be peaceful and respectful.

My hat is off to those Black Republicans that risk far more than I do to identify themselves as Republicans. I am not, I am a registered Indepedent and have voted for Democrats (Clinton), Republicans, and Libertarians.

Chris you have lost me here. How is that Democrats think African-Americans have to be in their party? I mean, clearly, it is the party that supports Civil Rights, health care for all, and equality of conditions for all. We are very open to what anyone wants to do no matter how it might seem just down right crazy to us!

  2. Sam says:

Chris, listen to the Tea Party they are all about racism and hate. This has nothing to do with taxes or health care. You clearly are either a racists *(as you attended one and saw nothing wrong with it) or you are a liar and did not attend one!!

Awww, ain’t craig and sam just the cutest little liberals? Craig, you say that the Dems are the party of civil rights. Guess what? It was the Republicans that passed the civil rights legislation in the 60′s. The Dems fought it. Also, universal health care is something you think is a good thing? So you believe just giving people things is good? When you start giving people things, they have less incentive to better their situation in life. I’ve worked in situations where I’ve dealt with young, healthy people who refused to get a job because it would be a pay cut for them. The more you give, the more people are less likely to want to make a better life for themselves. Also, no one is denied health care when they need it regardless of their ability to pay. “Equality of conditions”? Not even really sure what that means. However, the Dems are not into treating people equally. You have Affirmative Action, which is basically saying to the black community that you don’t think of them as equals so you have to provide special treatment for them. Conservatives, on the other hand, believe that your skin color doesn’t matter. Everyone is judged on their character and ability. Seems the Dems are the ones making people dependent on the government.

Sammy-boy, seems you are just blinded by your bias so there is little hope for you. If you really believe what you posted then you are an idiot. How you get that the Tea Party is about racism is just a cheap, intellectually dishonest cop-out. Easy to say but nothing to back it up. The Tea Party movement is about lessening government intervention in the lives of Americans. The founding fathers created this country to have a small federal government with limited powers. Basically, they set it up so citizens could live their lives with the least amount of government interference as possible. Let them succeed or fail on their own. Sure there are racists who call themselves conservatives. There are also racist who call themselves liberals. These people on both sides are fools and should not be used to label either side as racist. FYI People would be just as upset if uber-white John Edwards had become president and tried the the same things Obama has. Of course racism doesn’t explain why the Tea Party folks have a real distaste for Reid and Pelosi. If it was truly racism you’d think they wouldn’t have a problem with them.

  4. Ward Connelly, who happens to be an African-American conservative, recently commented at National Review Online about this issue. You can read his comments here:

  5. Dr. Thomas Sowell, another prominent black conservative, also recently wrote a great piece on this issue as well. You can read it here:

Most Tea Partiers are against Obama because we’re afraid of Jimmy Carter-on-Steroids, having lived through that ridiculous mess and realizing that we’re in an even more precarious position now than we were then. There’s no Ronald Reagan on the horizon to pull us out of this and “mop up,” as the Janitor-in-Chief likes to put it. There’s not a mop for quadrupling George Bush’s “unsustainable” spending.

Look here: http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2008/oct/15/the-cloward-piven-strategy/ will tell you the history behind this mess and how no one in power today is equipped, or inclined, to stop it.

  7. Michael Schack says:

To say the democrats were against the civil rights legislation is playing a little fast with the facts.
In the senate every southern democrat voted against it in the North45 for 4 against while the Republican Party 27 for 6 against

In the House of representat6ives democrats 152for it 96 against the democrats against it
Of the 103 Southern representatives 96 voted against it. I would say that t the Democratic Party contained two parties. What saved the passage of the bill after the 75 day filibuster by southern congressman were the Republicans who after a series of amendments added to h bill agreed to pass it. The final bill was Southern focused and took some pressure off the North. Everett Dirksen, Minority leader received a great deal of credit for getting the bill passed. It is said that Dirksen had a strategy to take the south away from the Democrats by passing the bill. It has worked to some extent.

  8. Michael Schack says:

Regarding the Tea Movement I am conflicted. I think it is great to see a group of Americans caring enough to get excited, express their beliefs, and cause the two major Staid Parties to think how to respond. I d not think they can become a third party and I hope they stay decentralized even if it means some rather nasty people joining or hanging around. While I am worried about their populist trend which historically means playing to thee extremes. I have never been to a meeting but have watched them as close as I can. I only wish that the centrist politically oriented voter could get as excited and follow suit.
About “Black republicans why not ? it was the original; party they as a group belonged to.(see book Capitol Men.)

  9. marlene says:

WHITES NEED to Understand Blacks Are the Constitutional Republic. Not the Corporate Republic Whites have Use Large White Mobs to Uphold. Blacks are written in the Constiutitonal Republic. and Remember Whites Wise and Extremelyy intelligent Men put them in their for a Reason. SO in a Constitutional Republic, Blacks can get in office by Referendum. They are Running to cater to Whites who dont understand they have Voted Mob majority against the Constitutional Republic. Like for a White Arnold Governor of California regardless of him having no historyy in America. And that is why Foreignor Arnold cater to Foreign illegals. But hes White. for the White elected by White mob majority. Which Hispanics now Want to be the majorityy mob. that is FOREIGN to the Constiutional Republic. Blacks are called stupid for locking on to the Dems. But Whites are Stupid for giving up The Constiuttional Republic voting for foreign debt, open borders, foreignors like Arnold who cater to Foreign illegals. And these fools call themselves conservatives. The founders of America are White and Black. And they Both left Blacks as Citizens of the Constitutitonal Republic. Therefore Blacks are in Truth Constitutional Republicans. EVEN IN THE DEM PARTY THEIR ARE NO BLACK SENATORS THAT COULD ELECT OBAMA OR KEEP BORDERS OPEN. THIS IS WHITES DOING. IN BOTH PARTIES.

  10. Michael Schack says:

Marlene I a very confused anout your comment. I am clearly one of ther not so bright of any color. Could you please further explain your thoughts? I am confused by your first two sentences about
“Blacks Are the Constitutional Republic. Not the Corporate Republic” followed about blacks being eritten into the constitutoional republic … by some wise men.” both sentences are “cuts”.
