Well, we made it! And I mean we as in the inclusive “all” of us. This has been the most challenging year for me as a teacher. This was my first year teaching AP US History and I loved it; great students! We finished our last unit a week ago and started reviewing. We took a practice exam on Sunday at the school and this week we are reviewing previous AP Exams. All year I have given them past AP Exam questions related to each Unit so I am comfortable they have been exposed to the high level of questions they will face. I do worry about the essay part of the exam. I have emphasized the two key aspects to writing a good essay: Cause & Effect; Change over Time. With a good thesis, proper categories, and solid knowledge I feel they will do well. I have 12 students and I am hopeful they all do well. The Exam is Friday, we will see!

Best of luck to your students. If I remember correctly this is the end of your first year teaching AP History. Don’t put too much stock in their AP grades. I don’t. Their experience in your classroom and the individual progress is much more important than their performance on a single test. One of the things I hate is the way this test sabotages all of our hard work.
Thank you for the message Kevin. I hope the classroom experience was what it should have been. I have continued visiting your blog and have to say congrats on the Westholme Publishing deal and the Wilson Quarterly invite, well deserved and impressive!
Thanks Chris. I hope you get a chance this summer to relax a bit.
Excellent work Chris. Our youth are much more blessed by having you as their navigator in a sea of historical interpretations. They will do just fine I’m sure. I also applaude you for the hard work into their lives, even as you yourself are studying for a grade. Your example will go far with your student for a lifelong learning lifestyle.
Best of luck.
Alex, thank you, very kind words. Tomorrow morning is the exam and I will be thinking of them!
Chris
